The opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games were about to captivate the world’s attention, but the minds of those at The Woods Chapel in Edina weren’t focused on the Olympics; they were focused on their beloved friends, Jon and Sara.
The day started out fast and furious. The moment we walked in the door, Sara handed…no, more like forced food into our hands. We knew we were in for a wild ride. Sara, whose dream is to be an Olympic athletic trainer (which struck everyone odd she would plan her wedding on the opening ceremonies?) couldn’t take her eyes away from Jon as she relished being his bride. Jon’s grin remained firmly fixed on his face for the entire day. Their youthfulness and energy reflected their relationship along with their adoration, encouragement and love for each other
One especially gripping moment was to see Sara’s four brothers surround her with love as they danced with her to her father’s favorite song – “What a Wonderful World.” Wes Mortenson is no longer with us, and he said before he passed that his one regret was that he couldn’t walk Sara down the aisle. In his own way, Wes did walk Sara down the aisle as everyone there felt his presence. There is no doubt Sara’s father was with us that day. What a moment and what a day. We adore you two and thank you for your hospitality. We will never forget this day or you.
